Happy birthday to the great divagator

Rumour has it that Richard Taylor, Panmure's greatest living postmodernist, author of Conversation with a Stone, and proprietor of one of the most remarkably original blogs you will ever see (scroll down through the posts and let your mind run wild), turned sixty last weekend.

Whether or not that's true, one thing is certain - the man that Jack Ross named 'the great divagator' hasn't lost his touch:

Date: Mon, 04 Feb 2008 17:10:49 +1300
To:"Scott Hamilton"
From:"Titus Books"
Subject: Taylor
after leaving six continuous messages on my answer machine Richard
spoke the immortal line 'these machines are not very good for
raconteuring'

Is this a NZ blog? NZers are nowhere near as modest as they like to tell the rest of the world, and seem to lack self-awareness on this level. I had a year in NZ last year and got sick of everyone and their dog telling me how all Kiwis are just like Edmund Hillary. Yeh, right, minus the modesty, resourcefulness, manners and vision. You lot are full of yourself. Wait until there are 20 million or more and see how much the world reacts to your arrogance and ignorance. On that note, NZ could increase its immigration rate. Why is it that 60 million live in my country the tiny UK, 21 million in Aus, the driest country on earth, and yet a paltry 4 million live in NZ? You're a selfish bunch who ought share your country with the overpopulated world. PS: Get rid of the accent. More vowels please.

Yes, my Blog is completely meaningless, foul with an immense lack of vowels: and, yes, it is true, we Kiwis are a bunch of useless bastards - I would love to see NZ extirpated from the face of the earth along with all the bloody whales...

Hillary was boring. He only climbed a crumbling mountain - I leap over vastly huger and fiercer mountains, huge outgrowths, burning beards, wierd crags, and sad faced continents: and then up up up and into ever growing and wondrous vistas of dazzling impossiblities! I contain universes...

Danke schon Skyler... Ich bin 60 indeed - Fischer (who in many respects I am like - except in being a chess genius) died at age 64 recently - this, my existence, and Fischer's sad death, is more important than Hone or Hillary's meaningless deaths...

Divagation, divarication, dittographication, e'en divination - all are essential in this life...

Unlike Hillary and other boring people such as Clark I - like the great Tama Iti - I am still alive!!

Ha!

From Richard Taylor's blog

"EXPERIENCE the writing - don't try to read it - experience it - live it - become it - your meaning of it is yours - be the physicality and the phenomenology of it whatever it is. STARE closely at the words let them dissolve into blocks of complete incomprehensibility - there are no meanings - each beats perpetually through and in the meaning whose signification is a madman playing with a decapitated head.

Let's all get positive on this....

GO INTO the words - they are not there to tell you any thing - so they will not tell on you."
